Our Services
In addition to the programs
we offer our members, we also provide services that are essential to our
success. Our work requires us to have full time staff who will focus on
managing and developing the school and community 4-H clubs.
1. Volunteer Screening and Training
The work done by IMonti 4-H PYDC relies on the positive interaction
between our members and our volunteers. It is our legal and moral
responsibility to ensure that our volunteers don’t pose a threat to our members
and this is done through a screening and training process for volunteers.
The screening process includes but is not limited to;
- A completion of a volunteer application form,
- An evaluation of their curriculum vitae,
- A reference check,
- A criminal record check,
- A signed agreement to abide by volunteer codes of conduct and
- An undertaking to attend all volunteer training and information sessions.
Approved volunteers then go through an induction process that includes;
- IMonti 4-HPYDC Volunteer and Leadership Training,
- Experiential Education Skills Training
- Positive Youth Development Training
- Project Related Training
Our volunteers are not required to be experts when it comes to project
leadership. We require for them to be involved in project that they are
interested in and are willing to learn about. Their participating can also be
flexible which provides an opportunity for busy parents to participate when
their schedule permits them. Our Staff Volunteer Leader has an oversight
responsibility over all club volunteers. She/he is responsible for monitoring and
evaluating club volunteers on an ongoing basis to ensure that they apply the
skills that they have learned and adhere to the volunteer codes of conduct. They
are also responsible for the ongoing training & development of volunteers;
their performance evaluation and volunteer events.
2. Camps
We offer our members a
variety of camps depending on the projects they pick. Each camp will have
participants from various school and community clubs. The aim of the camps is
to assist members with similar interests and passions to network and help each
other in achieving their goals through advice and partnerships. This fosters a
cooperative environment among our members and schools. They also get the
opportunity to meet with experts and professionals who are passionate about these
projects receive advice, mentorship and development from them.
3. Educational Tours
These will include campus
tours for members which will range from University tours to TVET College tours.
The focus on TVET is dispel the stigma that surrounds TVET Colleges among
parents and young people in South Africa. This will also provide our members
with the opportunity to have first-hand experience of what is needed for them
to succeed at tertiary level.
4. Project Kits
IMonti 4-H PYDC will also provide
members where necessary with project kits depending on the project that they
choose. These will include a project record book where they will record all
their 4-H activities and progress. These will form part of their curriculum
vitae which will be used to identify excellence award recipients.
5. Program Administration
IMonti 4-H PYDC will
provide program administration by ensuring that the records of all members are
kept up to date to ensure that their progress is noted as well as the impact of
the program in their lives. This will also involve the IMonti 4-H PYDC staff visiting
community club to interact with the members as well as their volunteers so as
to receive feedback regarding the impact of the program. This will be part of
monitoring and evaluation process for IMonti 4-H PYDC.
6. Marketing and Communications
IMonti 4-H PYDC will be
responsible for the marketing and communication of club activities and
achievements to our stakeholders as well as the media. This will involve highlighting
some of the achievements of our members and the impact of the program in their
communities. The exposure will attract donors and quality volunteers to the
program and influence other communities to join our movement.
7. Relationship Building
One of the core
responsibilities of IMonti 4-H PYDC will be a build relationships between the
program, public and private organizations. The programs of IMonti 4-H PYDC are
diverse and impact different sectors and fields. The club doesn’t have all the
resources it needs to deliver on all its programs especially when taking into
account the state of the schools that participate in the program. Part of our
work will be to create partnerships and working relationships with other
schools that are better equipped for assistance. Create partnerships with
institutions of higher learning, non-profit organizations and private
organizations that are willing to provide educational experiences to our
members. These partnerships will assist us in addressing some of the infrastructure
challenges faced by our schools and communities.
8. Excellence Awards
These will be held on an
annual basis whereby members and volunteers will receive awards and certificates
that recognise their achievements in projects and other related areas. Their project
record books will be utilised in evaluating their eligibility and award. Also
the physical manifestation of their efforts in their schools and communities
will be the main determining factor.
9. IMonti 4-H Positive Youth Development Club Fair
Annually IMonti 4-H PYDC
will hold a fair that will showcase the projects that our members are involved
in. This is where they will also submit their finalised projects for the
excellence awards. Judges for different categories will circulate in the fair
and interview participants on the process they followed in completing their
projects. At the end of the fair finalists will be notified and invited to the
excellence awards where they will receive certificates, medals and prizes for
their projects.
10. IMonti 4-H Positive Youth Development Club Alumni
The alumni department will
be responsible for keeping track of all our former members and ensuring the continuation
of the program to coming generations. They will assist individuals who have
exited our communities to remain connected to them and provide them with the opportunity
to give back to them. It will also assist in creating a legacy for the club
where children of former members join the club and become active advocates for
it.
11. Transport
Transportation is an issue in South African schools especially for
children from previously disadvantaged schools. Most learners attend schools
that are far from their homes and transportation causes a challenge for
students who want to participate in 4-H but have to leave school at the end of
the day due to their transportation contracts. To deal with this challenge 4-H
will partner with participating schools to provide transportation for members
of 4-H clubs. This will ensure that members who want to participate in the club
and have meetings after school will be guaranteed transportation and safe
arrival at home. Transportation will be supplied in various forms depending on
the age of the member, their proximity to the school as well as their
independence.Where feasible bicycles also will be offered to our members as part of
our green revolution.
